Abstract in Russian: the article examines the features of artistic perception and understanding of Taras Shevchenko’s poetry by 2nd grade students in literary reading lessons.

Annotation in English: the article reveals the peculiarities of an artistic perception and comprehension of Taras Shevchenko poetry by second grade pupils at the literary reading classes.
Key words: readings, aesthetic conscious, reading competence, poetic competence, lyrics.
Formulation of the problem. Modern school pedagogy, focusing its development on the aestheticization of the educational process and the formation of the child’s awareness that it is an integral part of the environment (nature, culture, history, etc.), the strategic goal of education determines the formation of personal culture, child involvement to universal spiritual values: to oneself, to another person and to humanity as a whole; to nature; to culture and art [9].
The pedagogical system of the Ukrainian school shows exceptional concern that the younger generation receives an aesthetic education, acquires a sense of beauty for life. The specificity of aesthetic education is that it forms in students an understanding of beauty, elegance and sharpness of worldview, spiritual needs and interests, aesthetic attitude to reality, develops creative abilities.
The above-mentioned signs of aesthetic education are realized in primary school in lessons of music, fine arts, choreography, labor training, reading, etc.
